A storey building’s beam collapsed on top of four Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel as they were putting out a fire at West Legon, the policemen suffered varying degrees of injuries, with two of them in severe condition.
According to reports, the first floor offices of the multistory building were damaged by a fire that broke out in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 24.
Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Department described the incident to Citi News, saying, “The fire incident happened this afternoon (Wednesday).” Our team in Legon was called in to assist in putting out the fire when it occurred. However, when they got to the fireground, they discovered that the fire was already out, so they had to send for more help from Abelempke and Madina. The firefighters were then thrown into the fire when the beam shattered and collapsed onto them. As a result, two of them are critically ill and needing care at West Legon, and four of them had injuries of varying degrees. It was a fire in a business.
