So this is the scene of a fatal accident that has recently occurred just 3 days ago at the Tema Port Terminal during an offloading operation involving metal beams.
The scene clearly shows the result of what appears to be a total disregard for safety on the job. And you can hear the wailing of a worker who has just lost a colleague to a workplace accident.
So clearly, the cost of an accident is pain and misery and the loss of livelihood of the dependents who have just lost a breadwinner.
This is one of the reasons why the entire safety fraternity of Ghana is calling on the government to institute proper reforms on the national framework for Occupational Health and Safety.
According to members of the health and safety groups, the government must as matter of urgency, pass the Occupational Health and Safety Bill into Law and adopt the single basic legal framework with an omnibus enforcement authority to oversee the improvement of health and safety standards in Ghana.

Thats a sad way to lose a breadwinner. This incident lives with them for a few days then they forget. I think the call for the passage of the OSH bill is in the right direction. Atleast people will be held liable and accountable for such accidents. #passtheOSHbillNOW.
Well said mate. We need this OSH bill passed as the first step and then we go further to ensure the systems are well established to prevent the law from gathering dust.
That’s a great write up mate
Can’t this news be published in the news papers or any medium through which the masses will read and hear about this tragic incident
If this is published in the news papers, it will raise an eyebrow as to why the osh bill needs to be passed into law
Great work done Selorm
Good one there, mate
