On Friday 27th August, 2021, the Organization and Human Resource Department of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) held a technical review session with Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals (GhISEP) on the course content of its upcoming Master of Science in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
The technical review meeting was held on the back of the University’s effort to engage stakeholders to peer review its programs and GhISEP’s commitment to collaborate with the academia to address the challenges that confront industry and society at large.
According to Prof Amponsah-Tawiah, the head of Organization and Human Resource Management Department, and the Chairperson of the meeting, the rationale behind the meeting was to gather industry peer review from GhISEP, being the body representing safety and environmental professionals in Ghana.
He mentioned that, the draft course content on the Master of Science in Occupational Health and Safety Management was put together by his team, taking into account the requirements of the National Accreditation Board and the University’s own standards, of which he was happy to have GhISEP validate the program and ensure it fits the needs of industries.
The President of GhISEP thanked the head of Organization and Human Resource Management Department and the entire UGBS for the opportunity and emphasized the role of GhISEP as the solely recognised professional body for Health, Safety and Environment, with a lot of professionals with various expertise, of which he found it instructive to respond to the call with his team of capable professionals to validate the all-important MSc Program.
The Dean of the University of Ghana Business School, Prof. Justice Bawole, who was also present, in his remark, emphasized that stakeholder engagement has become one of the critical areas of their programme development plans. According to him, they have had two (2) of such engagements recently for their Public Sector Management, and Procurement & Supply Chain Management and that they couldn’t be any happier that GhISEP had also accepted to help shape their Occupational Health and Safety Management Programme.
He continued that, once the programme has been approved, they would like GhISEP to nominate some of its members as tutors and lectures to support their faculties to handle most relevant and up-to-date practical cases that would be out there to help the up-and-coming young professionals who would enroll when the programme is eventually rolled out.
He assured the members present to stay in good communication with GhISEP as the program goes through the processes of approval and any changes thereof. In his closing remark, he expressed his appreciation and thanked the members of GhISEP for taking time off their busy schedules to attend the review session.
GhISEP representatives present were, Nana Annor Amihere II, Captain Raji Abdallah, Ransford Gyamberah, Madam Esther Ayaaba, Selorm Ametewee, Jonathan Antwi, Emmanuel Ohene Atiemo, Moses Komadatam, Richard Kuwiornu and WOI Anthony Addotey
The team led by Ransford Gyambrah, took members through a PowerPoint Presentation, where both parties expressed their views intermittently during the presentation and concluded on areas that needed to be looked at in order to enrich the program content for the benefit of society.
The Chairperson expressed his appreciation and thanked GhISEP for making experts available for the meeting. Both parties looked forward to subsequent engagements.
