A number of students at Ejisu Senior High Technical School were forced to flee to safety after a thunderstorm on Saturday, March 1, 2024, tore off the roof of the boys’ dormitory.
Following the event, more than 150 concerned kids took refuge in classrooms on Saturday.
When the incident occurred, the pupils were in the dining hall. There have been no reported casualties or injuries.
Hour-long rains also damaged the school’s warehouse, which houses textbooks and other materials, in addition to damaging teaching and learning resources.
About seven classrooms were also impacted, while the boys’ dormitories was the most severely damaged.
While engineers and officers of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) from the Ejisu Municipal Assembly are beginning an assessment of the damage, authorities have intervened and offered the impacted students temporary housing.
Samuel Oduro Frimpong, the Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive, visited the school with the Education Director and promised to step in.
In the meanwhile, the storm also caused damage to the Krapa Basic and Ejisu Experimental Schools.
