On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, 2 airplanes collided near Nairobi National Park, killing at least two people while 44 others managed to escape unharmed.
One of the aircraft involved was a Safari Link Dash 8, carrying 44 passengers and crew members on its way to Diani.
The other was a two-person Cessna aircraft used for training. The Dash 8 made a successful landing back at Wilson Airport, but the Cessna crashed in the park. Two fatalities in the crash were confirmed by officials, who stated that both planes had taken off from Wilson Airport.
However, Safarilink Aviation acknowledged the occurrence and declared that none of their passengers had sustained any injuries.
“Safarilink Aviation wishes to report that shortly after takeoff, our flight number 053, carrying 39 passengers and 5 crew members, experienced a loud bang this morning at 9:45 Local Time.” The flight was bound to Diani.
“The crew made the prompt decision to return to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for additional examination and evaluation, and they made a safe landing. The operator stated that no casualties had been reported.
According to their statement, Safarilink Aviation and the appropriate authorities have been contacted and are jointly investigating the situation.
