Mining Firm, Chirano Gold Mines Limited has presented some relief items worth $25,000 to victims of the Apeatse community explosion incident in the Western Region.
The donation took place on Monday, January 24, 2022.
The community was struck with an explosion on Thursday which has so far claimed 13 lives, affected about 70 others and destroyed properties in the town.
The items worth $25,000 is the initial donation, according to the mining firm.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Communications Officer for the mining firm, Kwabena Owusu Ampretwum said “the gesture is in line with its commitment to providing support for the affected victims in the Apeatse accident.”
According to him, the firm has also been working with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to ascertain the relief items required, hence this delivery, is based on those recommendations.
“We once again extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured speedy recovery. Chirano will continue to liaise with NADMO and other relevant organisation to provide support and relief to the affected persons and families,” Kwabena Owusu Ampretwum added.
Meanwhile, the mining firm has revealed that other donations will follow in subsequent days.
