Silver Spring, MD — A recent study of older and retired construction trade workers shows that more than half experience hearing impairment – and the risk increases with age. Researchers from CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training, Duke University, and the University of Maryland studied data for more than 21,000 participants in the Building Trades Medical Screening Program, or BTMed, to evaluate the risk of hearing impairment. The participants, who self-reported cases of tinnitus, previously worked at Department of Energy nuclear weapons facilities. Kobe Bryant’s widow has been awarded $16m (£13.6m) in damages over leaked graphic photos of the helicopter crash that killed the US basketball star and his daughter in 2020. Vanessa Bryant, 40, said she had panic attacks after learning images taken by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters had been shared. A 12-year-old boy identified as Prince Bentum Sarkwa has been reported dead in a fire incident at Chorkor in the Greater Accra Region. Another 15-year-old boy named Solomon Lamptey who suffered a severe injury in the incident, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. At least 26 people have been killed and dozens more injured in forest fires that have devastated northern Algeria. Kamel Beldjoud, the country’s Interior Minister, said 24 died in El Tarf, near the border with Tunisia, as well as a mother and daughter in Setif. Firefighters, supported by helicopters, were still trying to contain several blazes on Wednesday evening. Reports say some 350 residents have been evacuated in various provinces. A middle-aged woman and her son have been killed in a vehicular knockdown at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region. The accident occurred when the driver of a Kia Rhino vehicle with registration AS 1284-15 allegedly lost control of the steering wheel and ran over the mother and her son. The three students of the Opoku Ware School, who were arrested for allegedly robbing a taxi driver and subsequently granted bail, have now met the bail conditions and have been released from police custody.
