The emergency services in Nigeria say they have now recovered 17 bodies after a passenger boat capsized on a waterway in the commercial capital, Lagos. Four bodies were recovered on Saturday and a further 13 on Sunday. The inland waterways authority said the boat had set sail on Friday later than the rules permitted, and that the tide carried the vessel towards a barge, causing it to overturn. About eight persons sustained injuries in the early hours of Friday after a vehicle collided with two auto-rickshaws (tricycles) at Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The driver of the Urvan vehicle told police officers deployed to manage traffic at the accident scene that he ran into the tricycles from the opposite direction after he lost control. Passengers including the operators of the auto-rickshaws and the driver sustained injuries and were rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital and other health facilities. The Ghana Police Service has charged the 29 protestors who were arrested during a demonstration dubbed, Krom Ay3 Hye, on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Seven fire service personnel who were involved in a road crash at Goaso are receiving treatment at the Goaso Government Hospital in the Ahafo Region. The officers were on their way to an accident scene which claimed the lives of seven people when their fire tender got involved in a separate crash. At least seven people are reported dead following a car crash at Sankore in the Ahafo Region. Three of the deceased persons were on board a truck when they veered off the road and crashed with a taxi carrying at least four persons. The Police Administration has announced that two of its personnel are currently undergoing surgery as a result of the violence that marred Tuesday’s demonstration by Arise Ghana. The police in a Facebook post on Thursday said the number of injured officers has increased from 12 to 15. A leak of toxic chlorine gas at Jordan’s Red Sea port of Aqaba has killed 13 people and injured more than 260 others, state media report. Authorities said a chemical storage container fell while being transported as a result of a crane malfunction.
