An accident on the Cape Coast-Accra highway has claimed one life while others have been left in critical conditions. The accident occurred at Gomoa Assin when a long trailer with the registration number GM 3587-21 loaded with bags of cements run into a stationary cargo truck loaded with scraps in the middle of the road. Driver of the trailer is reported to have died on the spot after the crash. The Ejisu District Court has remanded a driver arrested in connection with the accident at Ejisu-Besease which claimed the lives of three male adults. According to police, the Honda CR-V which was driven by the accused, Justice Adjoyi attempted to overtake other vehicles, but lost control and killed three persons. The deceased include, 62-year-old Hamidu Mohammed, 40-year-old Masawudu Nalko, and 50-year-old Abdul-Rahman Mohammed. The three have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Nigerian police say they have launched an investigation after 31 people died in a crush in the southern city of Port Harcourt. It happened in a sports field on Saturday morning where a church was handing out food to the poor, some of whom had waited there overnight. The crowd “became tumultuous and uncontrollable” and organisers failed to calm the situation, police say. Many of those who died in the crush were women and children. A tipper truck on Friday morning crashed into two abandoned toll booths at the Tema end of the Tema-Accra Motorway. Two people were injured as a result of the accident. The accident occurred in the early morning (May 27, 2022) when the truck heading towards Accra from the Afienya section crashed into the empty toll booth, damaging the structures.
