Rains on Friday, May 6, 2022, which lasted several hours, brought more worry than relief to the city of Accra, with several uprooted trees blocking arterial roads and snapping electrical wires. Areas such as Osu, Labone and Legon saw drivers inconvenienced, with others changing routes due to the blockage. A nine-year-old girl has given a chilling account of how her guardian held her hand into boiling water as punishment for taking ¢2 to buy food without asking. The Ghana National Fire Service has appealed for the support of the district and municipal assemblies in the Volta Region to enhance the safety of lives and properties.  The Volta Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Fire Officer I, Joy Ameyibor Ayim, entreated the assemblies to establish bush fire control sub-committees and increase the number of fire stations and posts to augment fire fighting. One person has died, while seven persons have sustained varying degrees of injuries after a cargo truck collided with a stationary cargo truck along the Sefwi Dwinase-Bekwai road in the Western North Region. Four persons have reportedly died in an accident that occurred at Labone junction in Accra. The incident, which is said to have occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 2, was caused by a break failure and overspeeding by one of the vehicles involved.
