At least five people have been killed and 19 others seriously injured in a blast in Taraba state in north-east Nigeria. The explosion on Tuesday evening occurred at a bar in Iware, a busy commercial centre near the state capital, Jalingo. Police spokesman Abdullahi Usman said one suspected attacker had died, but it wasn’t clear whether he was a suicide bomber. Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong, has described as “unfortunate” the accident involving a boat carrying about 20 people on the Volta Lake, on Thursday. Seven people aboard the boat, which was sailing to Havorkope in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region, have been confirmed dead. A tipper truck and a Toyota minibus, popularly termed as ‘trotro’, have been involved in a fatal accident. The incident that happened close to the Wapco filling station on the Kpone Dawhenya stretch of the Aflao road occurred at 4am today, April 16. The truck driver, who was transporting explosives that exploded at Appiatse near Bogoso, in the Western Region, on January 20, has finally broken his silence. The heartbroken driver, Alfred Pappoe, who is still nursing his wounds, said he is now out of job. Police say a northwest Georgia man killed his grandmother by stuffing her in a freezer while she was still alive. Floyd County Police discovered the body of Doris Cumming, 82, late Thursday in the Armuchee home she shared with her grandson, 29-year-old Robert Keith Tincher III. One person has been reported dead after a Hyundai Creta salon car crashed into a container shop at Abetifi in the Eastern Regional town of Kwahu.
