A motorcade of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan was involved in a road crash in the capital, Abuja. The Wednesday evening accident claimed the lives of two policemen attached to him. It occurred when Mr Jonathan, who is a special envoy of the regional bloc Ecowas, was leaving the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to his residence in the city. His spokesman Ikechukwu Eze told the BBC that the former president was not personally affected in the accident. Some passengers on board a mini commercial ‘trotro’ bus and a taxi cab sustained injuries when a trailer loaded with bags of cashew fell on the vehicles at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi. The trailer is said to have failed when it was braking but managed to control the steering until it rammed into Airport Roundabout. According to an eyewitness, the trailer driver intended to use the Roundabout as a guard to avoid injuring others. A grim milestone has been crossed today in the war in Ukraine – more than 100 attacks on health care verified by WHO since the start of the war on February 24. The attacks so far have claimed 73 lives and injured 51. Health Officials of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly have effected the arrest of four persons in Old Fadama for operating pan latrines. These are make-shift toilet facilities made of wood. Patrons would have to squat on a perforated wooden platform and ease themselves into a basin. The raw excreta is usually dumped into the stagnant Korle Lagoon. Due to the adverse impact on the health of the residents, the AMA in 2020 outlawed it. A security guard with mining company Adamus Resources Limited in the Western Region is currently battling for his life after he was shot by unknown persons while discharging his duties. Paul Gyetuah is reported to have received gunshot wounds in the head, eye and shoulder.
