The Forestry Commission, through its surveillance task force, has arrested 55 illegal miners in the Atewa Forest Reserve over the last six months. The Kaduna State Government has disclosed that no fewer than 362 passengers were on the Abuja-Kaduna train attacked by terrorists on Monday night. The government noted that from the passenger manifest it received from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, 398 passengers bought tickets for the trip, but 362 boarded the train. The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, also revealed that eight bodies had been recovered, while 26 others were confirmed injured and currently receiving medical attention. Seattle — The owner of a West Seattle construction company has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for his role in a fatal trench collapse, according to the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. Phillip Numrich pleaded guilty to attempted reckless endangerment after a Washington L&I investigation found that the owner of Alki Construction “knowingly ignored basic, commonsense safety rules,” leading to the death of 36-year-old employee Harold Felton. Gunmen in Nigeria are reported to have abducted an unknown number of passengers from a train in the northern Kaduna state. The gang mined the track between the capital, Abuja, and Kaduna city and forced the evening train to a halt. Many of the nearly 1,000 passengers on board took shelter as shots were fired.
