The Health and Safety Committee, which was established to study Ghana’s mining sector’s health and safety regime, is urging the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to empower the Minerals Commission to punish mining corporations that break the law. A Magistrate Court at Wamfie in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region has sentenced two male students and a jobless young man to sign a bond of good behaviour for 12 months. In default, they would serve six months imprisonment for criminal conduct and unlawfully assaulting three male students of Wamanafo Senior High School over a girl. Five persons have been confirmed dead in a gory accident at Nkawkaw-Oframase in the Eastern Region. According to the District Police Commander, DSP Foster Asante, a sprinter bus with registration number, GC 6521-21 crashed into a stationary truck on Sunday dawn. He said the commercial vehicle driver took a wrongful overtaking leading to the incident. The five people died instantly whereas, five others sustained various degrees of injuries. An Accra Circuit Court 11 has denied bail application for the four Police officers allegedly involved in recent bullion van robbery attacks.
