Commuters and pedestrians who use the East Legon Under-bridge road say the portion of the stretch has become risky to use in the past three weeks. They’re worried about a broken height limit pole designed to warn drivers of the height limit of the under-bridge, which has broken from its original position and is currently standing on the main street. Washington — The death of an offshore worker conducting a pressure test on a well surface casing has prompted the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement to issue a safety alert. The agency’s investigation into the May 2021 incident found that the victim and a co-worker were using a high-pressure well to supply pressure to the well casing. They installed temporary test equipment that included a high-pressure hose and a digital pressure gauge, but didn’t use the pressure regulating device and pressure safety valve. About five persons are feared dead in an accident that occurred on the Ablekuma-Awoshie Highway in the Greater Accra region. Five others including the driver have also sustained varying degrees of injury. The accident occurred on Saturday dawn, a few metres from the Anyaa market. According to the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Service, fire outbreaks recorded nationwide in 2023 have reduced compared to figures in 2022. Mr Julius Kuunuor, the CFO, said the fire outbreaks declined by a margin of 274, representing 4.92% for the first 11 months of 2023. He noted that the Service recorded 5256 incidents compared to 5,530 recorded in the same period of 2022. “This is due to the extensive Public Fire Safety Education carried out nationwide. The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has launched the expansion of the Malaria Vaccine Implementation Programme. Malaria kills one child every 30 seconds, which approximates about 3000 children every day worldwide. Nearly 500,000 African children under the age of five die from this disease annually.
