Five persons have been burnt to death in two separate fire outbreaks recorded in the Ashanti and Volta regions, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed. The two domestic fires involved a nine-bedroom self-contained house at Asuoyeboah North in Kumasi and a chamber and hall apartment at Dzodze Attiatsikope in the Volta Region. Some commuters in the Ashanti region have expressed worries over excessive speeding of commercial vehicles, leading to a high spate of road accidents on the Kumasi-Accra highway. The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) says it will restrict commercial operations of minibuses to intra-city services or routes not exceeding 40kms. It follows complaints it has received from numerous road users including the National Security on the incessant high speed and reckless overtaking by drivers of mini busses on major corridors, particularly, the Kumasi-Accra Highway. Three family members were burnt to death on Monday dawn when a fire ruined a nine-bedroom house at Asuoyeboa in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The 45-year-old mother, Felicia Owusu, and her two children, who slept at the time of the incident, got trapped in their room. Three students of the University of Education in Winneba have been confirmed dead after they were involved in an accident on the Aperadi-Somanya stretch in the Eastern Region. According to reports, the driver of the bus transporting students on an educational trip, lost control while descending Aprede Mountain. The students were quickly rushed to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital in Somanya for treatment.
