A health and safety consultant has had his license revoked following a drink-driving incident. Leicestershire Police obtained a tip-off from a member of the public at approximately 4:30 PM on Sunday, December 8.
They informed investigators that Eamonn McMenamin had consumed alcohol in Leicester and thereafter departed in his BMW M4. Officers got to the location and saw McMenamin ensnared in traffic on Upperton Road in the city.
He failed a breathalyzer test, resulting in his detention and subsequent transport to a police station. At the station, he registered a breath alcohol concentration of 55 micrograms per 100 milliliters. The legal threshold is 35 micrograms.
Andrew Bolc, representing 56-year-old McMenamin of Cowslip Lane, Coalville, stated that his client had been driving for 35 years without receiving any penalty points or driving convictions. Mr. Bolc stated: “It appears he miscalculated his body’s capacity to metabolize alcohol.” He is a health and safety expert and has been self-employed for two decades.
Mr. Bolc stated that McMenamin was required to frequently visit 30 clients throughout the county and traveled approximately 15,000 miles annually. He stated that he would need to hire an employee to drive him, incurring significant costs.
Mr. Bolc informed the court that a driving prohibition would hinder McMenamin’s ability to support his children, residing eight miles distant with their mother, and complicate his assistance to his elderly parents, who had mobility issues.
McMenamin received a 12-month driving restriction and a £600 fine. He will additionally be required to pay £85 in court costs
