An investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death is underway
The Health and Safety Executive continues to assist Merseyside Police following the tragic death of a man at the Port of Liverpool yesterday.
Emergency services were called to Seaforth Docks on Monday morning following reports that a 63-year-old had been involved in an incident with a forklift truck.
Merseyside Police confirmed the the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s next of kin was subsequently informed and a police family liaison officer is providing them with support at this difficult time.
Following the tragic events at the Port of Liverpool, Merseyside Police issued a statement which said: “We can sadly confirm that a 63-year-old man has died following an industrial incident at Seaforth Docks earlier today, Wednesday 30 April.
“At around 10.15am, emergency services were called to the docks following reports that the man had been involved in an incident with a fork lift truck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
In a statement issued last night, Port Director at Port of Liverpool, Phil Hall said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a fatality occurred at the Port of Liverpool earlier today.
“Full details of the incident are not yet clear. Our immediate priority is supporting the family of the deceased, and any of our colleagues who have been impacted by the incident, in any way we can.
“We will fully cooperate with Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive in their ongoing investigations.”
The investigation in the incident is being led by Merseyside Police which is already liaising with partner agencies. A spokesperson for police said: “A joint investigation into the circumstances of his death will be carried out by detectives at Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive.”
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive confirmed this morning that the process is ongoing, adding: “We are assisting Merseyside Police with an investigation into what happened.”
